Amager Hr. Frederiksen, Batch One, and Sundby Stout coming to U.S.

amager-bryghus-hr-fredericksen

(Kastrup, DENMARK) – I did this same thing with Alpine Beer Co.’s Ichabod and Boris Imperial Stout. After waiting patiently for more information to surface, I gave in and posted only to find that more info would surface just hours later! In this case, you may have read my piece on Amager Bryghus yesterday, contemplating what potential the recent Julebryg label approval could hold for the future. And now we know…

Amager Hr. Frederiksen is one of the top 100 beers on RateBeer. It is Continue reading

Beer notes goes Organic: Laurelwood releases Free Range Red; Eel River Acai, Climax Noel

Laurelwood Free Range Red

Before I get into the notes, Oregon Business Magazine has a thorough piece on the Oregon craft beer scene in this month’s issue. A lot of recent craft beer articles that feature the Beaver State have naturally had something to do with hop production because of the time of the year. This article, instead, largely features commentary on the state of craft beer (with an emphasis on growth, independence, and consolidation of breweries) from the voices of four major players in the state: Rogue Ales, Deschutes Brewery, Widmer Brewing, and Full Sail Brewing. Full text available at the above link. Onto the organic beer notes…

Portland-based Laurelwood Brewing released its flagship Free Range Red Ale in bombers this week. Belmont Station, among others, has it on Continue reading

Shelton Brothers ship Amager Bryghus to U.S.

(Kastrup, DENMARK) – More from The Shelton Brothers:

We’ll also be bringing in beers for the first time from another brewery in Denmark that should get a lot of stout lovers excited. We’ll leave that one nameless until the beers are officially on the water.

At first I thought this would be Raasted Bryghus. I expect that the RateBeer crowd will be a little more familiar with this brewery as they have a line of top-rated imperial stouts on the site. While that may still be possible, I think I found the brewery to which Matt was referring… Amager Bryghus.

New Glarus Bourbon Barrel Edel Pils and ‘Vote 2009′

New Glarus Edel Pils(New Glarus, WI) – The guys from the Madison Beer Review caught up with Dan and Deb at New Glarus Brewing recently. If you have time to spare at lunch, give the half hour interview a listen. Among the more interesting tidbits was the revelation of Edel Pils Lager resting in some of the bourbon barrels that they typically use for their Unplugged Series. Nothing more was said about it but something to ask about if you happen to visit the brewery!

On a side note, New Glarus is once again doing their ‘Peoples’ Choice’-style vote to see what new style(s) you would like to see the brewery make for next year. The page can be found here.

And in case you missed it, they revealed their newest beer, Alt, last week.

Beer notes: RateBeer is back from the hack(ing)!

Three Floyds Mikkeller Oatgoop marks second joint effort

oatgoop(Munster, IN) – Following a brief stint at the JD Wetherspoon International Beer Festival a couple weeks ago, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø from Mikkeller hopped on board another flight late last week, this time heading overseas back to Munster, Indiana. There he met met up with Nick Floyd and Co. from Three Floyds Brewing, and the pair worked on their second beer together, Havregoop. ‘Havre’ means ‘oat’ and ‘goop’ is, well, American.

The Week’s New Releases: Port Brewing beers lead the way

Port logo

[10/15 Update: Looks like Southern Tier Cuvee #1 has been released! That or a couple BAers got their hands on some bottles early]

Just a quick note tonight on new releases as I am still working diligently on a major update to the release dates lists (I swear that I have added 200 beers but maybe it just seems like that). Here is what is tentatively due out this week (though it seems implausible that Port Brewing/The Lost Abbey will release three beers in three days, doesn’t it? Nah):

Port Panzer Imperial Panzer – 10/13 – went on sale at South Bay Drugs today

Port Santa’s Little Helper – 10/15 – Healthy Spirits in San Francisco has confirmed they have it on sale Weds. (they do not ship)

Goose Island Mild Winter, Bourbon County Stout, and Juliet Updates

Goose Island Mild Winter

(Chicago, IL) – These updates come courtesy of Brewmaster, Greg Hall.

On the new Goose Island Mild Winter at BA: “It will be released in mid to late November. We call it an American Mild. I spoke with Roger Protz and he agreed with my interpretation of a Mild Ale being more about relative lack of hops than about low gravity. Plenty of English examples Continue reading

Missouri’s The Wine and Cheese Place now ships beer (Boulevard Saison-Brett)

(Clayton, MO) – Another retailer enters the online fold and is the first one from the Heartland of America. The Wine and Cheese Place, based in Missouri, is spread out across a few locations, and its main competitive advantage may be lower shipping costs for those in the Midwest. From a beer standpoint, the primary ones to look out for come from nearby Boulevard Brewing, especially the Smokestack Series.

Currently in stock is the latest in the series, Boulevard Saison-Brett, along with several beers from Cantillon and De Molen, the two De Proef Signature Ales, and the new batch of Great Divide Fresh Hop. Only about 50 beers are listed online for automatic ordering for now though you can call, use the site contact form, or email Paul Hayden instead if you want to purchase a beer not yet listed. An updated blog with new arrivals is kept which may give you some ideas. Being in the St. Louis area, they also distribution of Bell’s beers.

Founders Breakfast Stout, Harvest Ale at Bruisin’ Ales?

Looks like Bruisin’ Ales got in its supply of Founders beers already. This is the list of beers that was available as of Friday so hopefully the good stuff didn’t sell out but knowing some of these beers sell like hotcakes elsewhere…

Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale
Red’s Rye P.A. (name change from Red’s Rye, 70 IBU’s)
Dry-Hopped Pale Ale
Breakfast Stout
Curmudgeon Old Ale
Harvest Ale
(will arrive in S.C. next month)

Julie will be getting in Backwoods Bastard next month, too, so bookmark her site and pay close attention to her blog. Ordering instructions are there, too. She still has in Highland Black Mocha Stout which took home a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival today.

Speaking of silver medalists, South Bay Drugs just added Drake’s 1500 Pale Ale to the shelves along with former Gold Medal Winner, Drake’s IPA.

Great Divide lands first sour ale with Baumer

Great Divide logo

(Denver, CO) – Before you get too excited, there is no guarantee that Great Divide Baumer ever gets put in . . . bombers, and even if it does, it may be just as limited as the recent releases of Whiskey-Aged Yeti Imperial Stout and Old Ruffian Barley Wine

New Glarus Brewing to come out with brand-new Alt

New Glarus Alt(New Glarus, WI) – New Glarus Brewing has even more going than its busy Unplugged schedule. Unplugged Apple Ale, which is slated for a November release, will be joined around the same time by a new beer in the brewery’s seasonal line: Alt. The alternative style trend is certainly picking up steam (more on that this weekend).

According to the site description: “Saluting Continue reading

Cantillon Iris 06, The Dissident at South Bay Drugs

This was the only store update I noticed today. South Bay Drugs received both Cantillon Iris 06 and Deschutes the Dissident (1-bottle limit).

Archer Liquors only got a case and a half of Founders Harvest which will likely sell out in-store this weekend before they have a chance to put it online. Might be worth a call to West Lakeview to see if they can ship any.

Gluek goes for the geeks with John Henry 3 Lick Spiker Ale

[10/10 Update: Official word from the brewery: John Henry will be released in December. Distribution will start in MN, IL, and CA with the initial production of 300 cases.]

It looks as though Gluek Brewing, Minnesota’s largest brewery, will aim to appeal to the beer geek crowd with a new “ale aged on bourbon oak chips.” No information about John Henry 3 Lick Spiker Ale, to be Continue reading

The Unofficial Great American Beer Festival 2008 Beer List

GABFMere hours before the event kicks off, I have managed to procure what should be the most complete beer list that you will find online for the 2008 Great American Beer Festival (which you can download by clicking the ‘Continue on!‘ link below). I have counted at least a couple dozen breweries that I still need to track down; some are literally missing out this year like Hair of the Dog and Midnight Sun. But there will be a ton of interesting beers there… Firestone Walker Parabola, Town Continue reading
