(Brooklyn Center, MN) – With the impending end to the growler fun at Surly Brewing, it would seem fit that the brewery would find another way to re-route some of that beer to the consumer, probably through more draft availability. But THIS is a pleasant surprise. The brewery with virtually straight A’s on Beer Advocate is poised to add another beer to its canned line-up this winter.

New bomber line to come from Long Trail Brewing
(Bridgewater Corners, VT) – It isn’t everyday that I hit upon Vermont brewery news. A label approval came through last week for a Long Trail beer that I didn’t recognize so I reached out to the company for info.
According to Seth Wyman, Long Trail Brewing Brand Marketing Manager, “Long Trail plans to release a special line of gourmet style beers made in small batches. The Coffee Stout will be the first of these to be offered in its very own 22oz bottle [...] We are hoping to Continue reading
Liquid Solutions has Alaskan Baltic Porter for sale
This alert came into me just a couple hours ago. Liquid Solutions is now selling Alaskan Baltic Porter at its online store. The beer is priced at $8.91. Per the site: “This beer is all about the ingredients,” says Alaskan brewer Michael King. “A ridiculous amount of hand-peeled and seeded whole gourmet Madagascar vanilla beans were used along with nearly 500 pounds of dark black cherries and a variety of specialty malts to create a dynamic and smooth experience. Aging on toasted French oak and the addition of vanilla beans during fermentation really round out the flavor.”

Surly says farewell to growlers with a new beer
(Brooklyn Center, MN) – Quick afternoon update: Surly Brewing has made a Double IPA as part of the end to its successful growler program, to take place during the last week of December. Minnesota law prevents Surly from continuing growler fills next year because its business has grown over a set threshold (3,500 barrels – yes, a major bummer and makes me shake my head at state liquor laws once again). Surly brewed 30 bbls of what appears to be their first-ever double IPA.
There was a lot more info related to other things (like Wisconsin tap distro) in the newsletter they just sent out than what they published on the site. To sign up, visit the Surly website.
Sierra Nevada to bottle first new year-round release in over 28 years
[Available in stores across the USA as of late February. None of it is available on draft yet.]
(Chico, CA) – There were some rumblings on Beer Advocate recently resulting in a quick thread lock down with respect to one apparently controversial beer: Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA. There seems to be conflicting info between the RateBeer description and what was mentioned by people in the BA thread. The (and I use the term loosely) “controversy” is whether this Torpedo is actually a new beer, whether it is another version of Sierra Nevada Celebration, etc. Bill Manley, Sierra Nevada Communications Coordinator, has always been forthcoming with information about their beers so I thought that he would be a good one to clear up any confusion with this. So here is the scoop straight from him:
Archer Liquors has Southern Tier Krampus, Kalamazoo Hopsoulution

Recent updates on the Beernews.org Buy Beer Page
I have been slow to update the Buy Beer page at times this month but I just wrote a few updates this morning. There is a lot of good craft beer available online right now and more stuff coming on the way.
For all articles, click over to the Buy Beer page. Otherwise, spot something that interests you below.
Southern Tier Krampus, Kalamazoo Hopsoulution, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout at Archer Liquors
The Bruery Autumn Maple, Alpine BORIS, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout at South Bay Drugs
Deschutes the Abyss available online soon
Ninkasi Oatis at Bottle Trek, Laughing Dog The Dogfather at Liquid Solutions
At some point, I will streamline/re-design that part of the website…
A couple notes on The Abyss, Twelve (XII)
It is confirmed that Deschutes the Abyss will be available online for sale soon at both South Bay Drugs and Liquid Solutions. However, it is going to be limited in both cases and Matt Maples of LS has even posted a note on his site explaining that he won’t have as much as he did last year.
As for Firestone Walker Twelve, GOOD LUCK. When I said that The Bruery Autumn Maple was the hottest beer of the season, I think I should probably clarify that I meant the hottest fall seasonal. Twelve is an anniversary beer and is the hottest beer out there PERIOD right now. I haven’t confirmed with either party that it will be available for shipping online as both retailers may reserve the few bottles they get for loyal in-store customers but both South Bay Drugs and new online retailer, Healthy Spirits will have it in stock soon. Otherwise, like me, you can go over to BevMo.com and sign up for an alert if it comes in stock but I am not holding my breath.
South Bay Drugs selling Autumn Maple, Alpine BORIS

Technically, The Bruery Autumn Maple will be available again tomorrow for shipping. It is the ‘hottest’ beer of the season from what I can tell. In addition, you can get both of the newest Alpine releases: BORIS and Ichabod. Joey also has Goose Island Bourbon County Stout in stock which, from what I have read, is superb this year.
Other recent arrivals:
Anchor Our Special Christmas Ale
Firestone Walker Double Ale
Redhook Double Stout
A ton of Port/Lost Abbey beers
The contact info for ordering online can be found on the South Bay Drugs website.

The Return of Abyss comes this weekend
(Portland/Bend, OR) – [Before I get into Deschutes, Portlanders will be interested by some news reported at Brewpublic and The Beer Here with respect to Rogue Ales purchasing a local favorite watering hole, The Green Dragon Brew Pub. Click those links for the story.]
By this time tomorrow (Friday), those in Portland will be able to try the third batch of Deschutes the Abyss, a hailed imperial stout that is part of the Reserve Series. The beer goes on tap at the Portland Pub Continue reading
A commemorative ale coming from Guinness next year
[4/14/09 Update: Launches in the U.S. April 24, in Australia and Singapore later.]
(Dublin, IRELAND) – Guinness will celebrate its 250th anniversary next year and looks to be doing it in style with a new beer, Guinness Anniversary Stout. The beer commemorates the date on which Arthur Guinness signed the lease on St. James’ Gate in Dublin: December 31, 1759. Guinness hasn’t come around to the craft beer scene yet but this one might appeal to craft drinkers. The packaging looks fancy and at 11.2 Continue reading
Expanding Distribution and a new Flemish Red for The Bruery
(Placentia, CA) – A couple quick notes from The Bruery…
Anyone who read the recent LA Times article on SoCal breweries may have caught a small reference to a “Flemish Red” from The Bruery. It just so happens that Patrick Rue, founder/brewer of The Bruery, had Continue reading

Some beer can be purchased directly online. See a beer here that isn’t listed? Send him an email (link opens mail client) and see if it can be shipped.

Paul keeps track of what beer comes in at his blog as well.
Welcome to the online beer shipping world, Healthy Spirits
I got an email from Rami over at the San Francisco-based Healthy Spirits last week. Why should this matter to you? Because San Francisco is rather close to a little place in Santa Rosa called Russian River Brewing. I haven’t confirmed whether the store will ship this but Russian River Temptation and Beatification are both listed on the site as available by request only. It is worth a call. You can also find Port Santa’s Little Helper 2008 in stock. Hit up the Healthy Spirits for a list of beers that have recently come in stock.
