terrapin-monks-revenge

[1/9 Update from Steve Hayes of Terrapin: Side Project Volume 5 will be a Belgian IPA called Monk's Revenge. It is scheduled to be released in early March. Also, 2009's version of Rye Squared will be released around this time as will 6 packs of Sunray--our German-style wheat brewed with Tupelo honey from Savannah Bee Company.

Side Project Volume 6 is still in the vault, so there's nothing I can say about that.

Yes, the Side Project beers will be available everywhere Terrapin is sold except Alabama and Chattanooga, TN (available in Georgia, Tennessee-Nashville area, S.C., N.C., Florida, and Pittsburgh-PA).]

The new beer looks like a variation of the previously retired “Avery Continue reading

Seven Danish breweries collaborate on new beer

norrebro-bryghus-logo(DENMARK) – Shaun Hill of Norrebro Bryghus passed this note along to me yesterday about a major beer project undertaken by Norrebro and six other Danish breweries. It reminds me of the Lost Abbey Isabelle Proximus collaboration between five U.S. breweries that took place last year. While it may never hit the U.S., Denmark’s growing beer scene can’t be ignored and this could be viewed as a milestone for the country’s brewers. Here is the scoop from Hill:

Craft Beer Calendar Updated

THE CRAFT BEER CALENDAR HAS BEEN UPDATED.
CLICK HERE FOR JANUARY & OTHER MONTHS

READ: It is mostly updated. I expect to continue working on it and release another ‘update’ in the next week or two. I need to move the ‘winter’ month in between January and February. It is simply an estimate of releases that will occur over the next two months for which I have not identified a more specific time frame. Also check over December as it is the best indication as to what you will see on shelves right now. I still need to upload some thumbnails and will add in more seasonal beers over the coming weeks.

Enjoy!!

A huge day for beer news

struise-cuvee-delphine

[BEER RELEASE CALENDAR NOTE: In light of wanting to do a little more work on the calendar with today's news in mind (and it being 2:20am), I won't have time to publish until tomorrow night.]

It just wrapped up with the Portsmouth/Smuttynose news though it actually started with a major announcement from reigning RateBeer champion brewery, Struise, that it would be releasing a top 50 beer.

sierra-nevada-porter

Administrative Note: I expect the January beer calendar update to happen this afternoon or tonight so check back again later!

(Chico, CA) – Yes, I have shown the above label here before but didn’t know the story until now. Here is the scoop via Sierra Nevada‘s Bill Manley: “All of the Sierra Nevada beers will be getting a new look, with a more slick and updated logo, including Pale Ale. The Pale Ale change is Continue reading

Malt and Vine: Pike XXXXXX Stout, Bruisin Ales: Founders Porter

founders-brewing-logo-thumb-100-72Malt and Vine has a local beer from The Pike Brewing Co. out of Washington. Pike Entire Wood-Aged Stout was limited to around 1000 bottles in production IIRC though there are still a few bottles left at Malt and Vine. Three bottle limit.

Bruisin’ Ales looks like it will be the first online store to get Founders Porter. It is supposed to arrive in the store this week so shoot Julie an email at some point. Founders Imperial Stout will eventually show up online as well (but probably only if the brewery produced as much as it did of Breakfast Stout).

You can see more tips at the Buy Beer site. Just know that the Ballast Point Sculpin at South Bay is sold out!

bells-oberon-ale

Bells Oberon Ale

(Kalamazoo, MI) – First look at the highly sought after beer released in Michigan each March. The first day of spring is Friday, March 20 so expect the release to be that week (unconfirmed). Watch the Kalamabrew site in March as they will hopefully again have their list of release parties happening in Michigan.

Startup Nebraska brewery gearing up for first brew

lucky-bucket-lager

This guest post is the first part in a series showcasing the work of other beer bloggers. Nate does a fantastic job of covering the Nebraska beer scene at his Nebraska Beer Blog.

Here, Nate writes about the newest brewery in the state, Lucky Bucket Brewing. Some may be familiar with the name as Founder/Head Brewer, Zac Triemert, worked with Flossmoor Station and Fifty Fifty Brewing on Collaborative Evil, a well-received Belgian Strong Dark released in Illinois this past fall. I have attached an update at the end with a little more info on the beers coming in 2009. See Nate’s article below.

Midwest breweries (yes, Surly) now available to the nation

france44-banner

5/7/11 Update: I recommend France 44 for buying Surly beer online.

[I have an email out to Surdyks on the issues mentioned in the Beer Advocate thread. $100 minimum, $75-$100 shipping charges. These need to be addressed. Let's wait and see what Surdyks says.]

You can now buy craft beers from the state of Minnesota among others in the Midwest. I recently found the Surdyks website and noticed that the store had QUITE the online selection. (Another plug for my Twitter page as I revealed this to them last week). I usually reserve these posts for the Buy Beer page but when a whole region’s beers become available to much of the nation (legally), it’s a big freakin’ deal. Here are the breweries that we are talking about here…

Surly Brewing (Furious Bender and Bitter Brewer available), Tyranena Brewing (no Brewers Gone Wild beers right now), Flat Earth Brewing, Capital Brewery, Schell’s, Rush River, Sprecher, Summit, Cold Spring/Gluek, Leinie’s (no New Glarus beers either)

Beer Notes: Oskar Blues, Three Floyds Mikkeller Oatgoop, Rogue JLS

Stone Brewing and Dogfish Head have both revealed their 2009 special release schedules, both to be implemented in the upcoming update to the Craft Beer calendar.

Shiner marks 100th Anniversary with Commemorator Ale

shiner-commemorator-100SHINER MARKS ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A BOLD NEW TASTE

In 1909, German and Czech immigrants decided to start the Homebrewing Association in Shiner, Texas so they could make the kind of beers they’d left behind in their homelands.

With the arrival of Bavarian-born and classically trained brewmaster Kosmos Spoetzl in 1915, the brewery was on the way to becoming one of the country’s most respected craft brewers.

To mark this important milestone not just for the brewery but for American beer making, we have literally bottled our history and heritage in a new brew to celebrate the centennial of Shiner Beers and the Spoetzl Brewery.

Shiner 100 Commemorator is a rich and robust brew that is a fitting tribute to our legacy of 100 years of handcrafting stylish and flavorful beers. Commemorator is a bold style that would have been very familiar to Kosmos.
