(St. Paul, MN) – “[...] The reason we chose this descriptor was to indicate that we are brewing a beer which we believe to be the most faithful interpretation of the style possible. Unlike other Americanized versions of Kölsch beers, we have maintained a strict adherence to the Reinheitsgebot in the brewing of this beer and not added any adjuncts (honey, corn, fruit, etc.).

Duck-Rabbit Schwarzbier due in late July
(Farmville, NC) – This comes from The Duck-Rabbit‘s Paul Philippon and Ryan Witter: “Next up will be Schwarzbier. It’s lagering now. This will be a refreshing summer beer (sometimes referred to as a black pils). In Duck-Rabbit fashion, we’ve made ours extra schwarzy. It’s very dark and quite roasty. Lot’s of Hallertau hops give this an authentic German character. I expect this to end at 5.8% ABV. Our plan is to have this out the door in late July.”
Full Sail Session Black Dark Lager debuts
(Hood River, OR) – Welcome the newest member of the Full Sail family, Session Black!
We have a lot of things to celebrate this July. Our nation’s independence, Oregon Craft Beer Month, and, most significantly for us, celebrating our own independence. On July 2 we celebrated our tenth anniversary as an employee – owned brewery. To commemorate, we are delighted to showcase the release of Session Black Premium Dark Lager, which is ready to hit the stores in early July.
Session has always been about the love Continue reading

Terrapin Hopsecutioner IPA coming in November
(Athens, GA) – I don’t have much more on this rumor yet but word comes from Terrapin Beer Co. that they are aiming to release a new beer next month (I missed the update from Steve that the timing is closer to Sept/Oct, damn!) in November (there were some delays!), an IPA called Hopsecutioner. The new IPA will be a year-round 6-pack release w/ an ABV of 7.3%.
Lost Abbey Duck Duck Gooze debuts
7/22 Update: A lengthy discussion ensued at RateBeer after I posted this article. There was some misinformation in it (see my comment as to why) and Tomme cleared the air (look for the post on that page by ‘brewboy1.’
(San Marcos, CA) – For the lashings that The Lost Abbey took over the winter for delays in shipments to Sinners Club members and then for “Bottlegate” during March and April, culminating in multiple statements issued by Tomme Arthur, it looks like much of that is behind the brewery. Over 600 attended the brewery’s 3rd Anniversary party in early May and they celebrated with a number of special releases.
With another big day for the brewery coming up, Arthur & Co. are not looking back. The Lost Abbey celebrates Christmas in July on July 25 (full details here) with a huge event.
After three years, the brewery has approximately 50 beers under its belt and is making two of its top six (by RateBeer standards) available on this day including its #1 beer, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Angel’s Share. That Continue reading
Samuel Adams Coastal Wheat to debut
[Update: This will replace the brewery's Hefeweizen. Looks like Sierra Nevada made a good call bringing its Hefeweizen to the market.]
(Boston, MA) – Keeping this brief as I’m on a commuter rail train at the moment but Boston Beer Company is poised to add another beer to its Continue reading

Beer notes: Beer Advocate, Port Santa’s Little Helper, Cigar City, Yazoo
Late this week, Beer Advocate started experiencing some intermittent service on its site. The site isn’t 100% back to normal yet but Todd is posting updates on Twitter for those who can’t make it online. Here is the post from Todd on BA explaining the situation: “Our host confirms that last night they experienced a service-wide Denial of Service (DoS) attack and apparently resolved the issue. We’re still experiencing issues, and they’ve been informed and are investigating the issue.”
