Announcing the FBAG 2011 Brewery Pick’em Contest!

UPDATE: It is not too late to thank @brewoutfitters on Twitter if you have filled out an entry though new entries are now closed.

Currently about a 1 in 10 13 chance to win schwag.

That’s right! A good ole fashion barn burnin’ hog-tyin’ Brewery Pick’em! There is a big beer awards event going on in Denver, Colorado, this weekend. Here is an unlicensed/unofficial game where you readers can have some fun with it.

Deadline for entry is Thursday, 9/29 10AM EST / 7AM PST.

THE GAME:

1. Select the breweries that will do the best at this weekend’s American brewery awards competition.

2. Points will only be awarded for medals in the individual beer categories. 3 points for each gold, 2 points for each silver, 1 point for each bronze.

2. You have up to $40 to spend in total on up to ten breweries. You do not need to fill in all ten fields. You do not have to spend all $40. You are ineligible to win if you go over $40 spent.

The money that each brewery costs can be found here.

3. There are 240 breweries in this contest. 99% of them are there because they won more than one medal in either of the two major U.S.-based beer competitions in the past three years. There are no write-in options available this time but in future games, I think there will be.

4. Technical note: I’ve consolidated breweries/brewpubs that have multiple locations such as Iron Hill and Rock Bottom into one entry. So if you pick Rock Bottom, you will win medals for multiple locations. In 99% of cases not involving location consolidation, I will score it by the way the brewery is noted on the official awards sheet.

PRIZES:

There will be one “grand” prize package and five smaller prize packs to the top finishers. Another small prize pack will be given to one person who thanks @brewoutfitters in a tweet. I dropped this on Sean at Brewery Outfitters this morning and there was no hesitation on his part whatsoever to contribute some schwag. Way cool of him to jump on board on such short notice…

Oh, who is Brewery Outfitters you ask? Sean creates schwag for breweries various out on the West Coast. Seriously, some top notch breweries! Check them out on his site (click the flickr link on there). He sent me some brewery gear a while back and I’m wearing it around town now. Awesome stuff. A pic or two forthcoming on Twitter…

WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT:

Winners of this contest will be announced on the site here on Monday, October 3rd. If you want to know how you did before Monday (awards announced Saturday), you will have to make a copy of your brewery picks and calculate it yourself. There is no way for you to look up your entry.

ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED.

CONTEST RULES:

1. Only those living in the U.S. and are at least 21 years of age are eligible to win prizes.

2. You may change your answers by entering in the form again. However, only one entry (the latest entry) will be accepted per person.

3. Fill in your first name and city/state so that I have something to post on Monday when I announce the winners. If you are concerned about privacy, just put in a fake city/state or something.

4. Enter your email and a link to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plug, Beer Advocate or RateBeer…some way that will help me verify that you didn’t use multiple email addresses for this contest. Your information will not be shared, used for a newsletter, used for malicious purposes, etc…

5. If you are affiliated with judging at the beer festival or otherwise affiliated with management of the awards, you are disqualified from entering.
