Dupont Spéciale Belge, brewery’s first-ever collaboration, goes nationwide starting June 10th

dupont special belge beer(Tourpes, BELGIUM) – Per a Vanberg and DeWulf (importer) newsletter…

Spéciale Belge is the first and only collaboration beer brewed by Dupont in its 166 year history. Though brewed specially for Philly Beer Week, it is going national by popular demand starting on June 10.

To create this beer, Dupont brewer Olivier Dedeycker took a spéciale Belge recipe and – at the request of Tom Peter’s, Philly Beer Week co-chair, legendary Philly Monk’s Cafe publican, and a good friend of Vanberg & DeWulf’s – added a light lacing of smoked malt. The result is a quaffable Spéciale that will remind old timers of Ginder Ale or Vieux Temps. However, it has the classic dry finish Dupont is famous for and a light smoke note.

The collaborating brewer is Chris Lapierre out of the Iron Hill Maple Shade brewpub. Iron Hill’s collective of brewpubs were just voted the world’s best “Small Brewpub” at this past weekend’s World Beer Cup awards.
