Just as noteworthy…RateBeer reported that 1,914 new breweries opened worldwide in 2012, a 17% uptick from the approximately 11,000 worldwide breweries tracked for RateBeer Best one year ago.

It is the third straight year that a U.S. brewer has won the honor since RateBeer started it up in 2011. Vermont’s Hill Farmstead won it that year and Alaska’s Anchorage won it in 2012. Fellow Chicago brewer, Revolution Brewing, was in the top five in 2011.
As for other U.S. brewers in this year’s top five…Tired Hands Brewing Company out of Ardmore, Pennsylvania finished 2nd and Gigantic Brewing out of Portland, Oregon, placed 5th.
