Small BREW Act highlights Brewers Association’s February legal update

Small brewer excise tax recalibration legislation, The Small Brewer Reinvestment and Expanding Workforce Act (Small BREW Act) HR 494, was introduced in the 113th Congress on February 5 by Representatives Jim Gerlach (R-PA) and Richard E. Neal (D-MA).  Joining as original co-sponsors of the bill were Representatives Peter De Fazio (D-OR), Erik Paulsen (R-MN), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Patrick McHenry (R-NC).

That said, we can’t actually find the new bill having been introduced in the Library of Congress so this may or may not be a mistake.

  1. Just because the text hasn’t shown up on thomas.loc.gov yet, doesn’t mean it hasn’t been introduced. It can take the Government Printing Office (GPO) several days to receive the text from the Clerk of the House and get it formatted for the web. Check back in a few days!

  2. Cool, but this isn’t 1908! There are 1000x the number of people covering the daily congressional beat than the beer beat and I would assume there would be news of this being introduced somewhere…which I don’t see…two days later no less.
