Ommegang’s Game of Thrones beer debuts (first at SXSW), ‘Take The Black’ next?

ommegang iron throne bottle shot(Cooperstown, NY) – Brewery Ommegang’s much-anticipated beer based on The Game of Thrones, Iron Throne Blonde Ale, debuted at the SXSW festival in Austin over the weekend.

Of all possible launch events, the selected unveiling was a swanky art show put on by the Alamo Drafthouse. The Easy Tiger ATX also ran a promo on draft sales this past weekend, giving away over 100 pieces of glassware.

Media samples went out last week so you may come across a review if you haven’t already. As for when it hits other markets, you can expect to see it start rolling out in the next few weeks in both 750ml bottles and draft (1/6 barrels).

Iron Throne is one of multiple beers to be released under a deal with HBO Global Licensing.

BeerPulse also sleuthed out a trademark filing (for alcoholic beverages) by HBO for ‘Take the Black‘ so it looks like Ommegang may go to the dark side for the next beer in the series. More info on the promotion can be found here. The next beer is scheduled for a fall release with more beers coming in subsequent seasons. A request for more information is out to the brewery.

Games of Thrones Season 3 begins on March 31st.
