Russian River Brewing announces growler policy, will fill only its own growlers

Due to a recent reinterpretation of an existing liquor law by the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, breweries holding Type 23 licenses are now allowed to fill other breweries growlers with the proper legal information and state label approval. We, along with several other California breweries, have decided to continue to fill ONLY our own growlers at this time for the following reasons…

  1. My initial reaction was “BOOOO”, and it still kinda is after an hour. The reason for it changed, though. The reasons the few CA breweries have given that have responded to this “change in interpretation” are damn lame.

    Just say that you’re not going to fill growlers except your own until the law is clear.

    Also, CA is stupid.

  2. Too bad. If I had another growler and they (or anyone) refused to fill, I’d walk away.

  3. What a dissapointment. I would expect RR to lead the charge on something like this, but they just took it as an opportunity to make money off branded growler sales. Wouldn’t they rather just make the extra money from selling more beer regardless of the style of growler?
