(Albany, NY) – Nine Pin Ciderworks, New York State’s first Farm Cider Licensee, is excited to make their flagship, off dry cider available to the world. A requirement of the Farm Cidery license, only available in NYS as of 1/15/14, is that all apples must be New York grown. Nine Pin’s cider apples come from within 20 miles of its cidery in New York’s Capital, making it truly New York and a shining beacon of sincere Localism. In conjunction with distribution partner Remarkable Liquids, Nine Pin Cider will be delivered to retail accounts throughout New York State by the first week in March. The product will be available in 22 oz bottles and draft. The launch will become official with the Ribbon cutting and Grand Opening of the Nine Pine tasting room, in downtown Albany, scheduled for Friday, February 28th. Some exciting small batch farm to glass cider experiments will be available.
Nine Pin Cider has its origins in the premier apple growing regions of the upper Hudson Valley where Alejandro del Peral, Cider Maker/Partner, grew up. After graduating from McGill in Montreal with a Biology Degree, Alejandro moved to Vermont to work on his Masters Degree. In a strange twist of fate, he once again found himself surrounded by apple orchards. Burlington is where he stumbled across then upstart, Citizen Cider. After hearing about the business, and cider making process, Alejandro was instantly enthralled by creating liquid art from science and local terroir.
“I’m having these conversations with these guys and light bulbs are just going off in my head. Oh my god, I have these amazing orchards where I grew up. These guys are cool, their whole philosophy on cider making and apple growing and the relationship between the two deeply resonated with me.”
After working with Citizen Cider, Alejandro realized he had a true passion for the product and was eager to pull all of his knowledge together to return to his roots and focus on New York cider.
“This is the culmination of the various paths I’ve taken in life and it’s an amazing ride to be able to work with family, friends and the world class orchards in my home state.”
Twenty five draft launch events are scheduled in March throughout the Capital District with bottle release events going on through the rest of the Hudson Valley and Western NY. Nine Pin’s New York City debut will follow in May. Check their website for event info: www.ninepincider.com.
Nine Pin Cider:
1770. A revolutionary spirit echoes through the Hudson Valley. But Rip Van Winkle, beloved ne’er-do-well, meanders through the Catskill Mountains. He follows the distant rolling thunder, finding not a storm, but the ghosts of Henry Hudson’s sailors playing ninepins, the Dutch form of bowling. After partaking in the game and in a keg of hard cider, Rip Van Winkle falls asleep, waking years later to find he’s skipped the entire Revolution. He wasn’t one of our country’s founders, but he sure found great taste.
2014. No need to sleep 20 years to find that a revolution has swept the Capital Region. Nine Pin Ciderworks delivers crisp refreshing taste to the heart of Albany. Using farm fresh fruit, including apples grown from seed on the del Peral family farm, Alejandro del Peral crafts delicious Nine Pin New York Hard Cider at 929 Broadway in the shadow of The Rose. www.ninepincider.com
