The name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the brewery’s effort with the third beer in the barrel-aged series, “Black Tot.” Some bottles of that 2010 release showed varying levels of unintended sourness, according to founder, Adam Avery. A line on the label also reads, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, matey!!”
The infection didn’t stop the beer from scoring a 98 on RateBeer anyway.
Four years later, the second try is set to be released.
An Avery Tap Room bottle event is set for Sunday, July 13th, this being the 21st beer in the Barrel-Aged Series. Bottle sales begin at 1pm. $12 per 12oz. bottle, limit 12 bottles per person. Rare beers on draft starting at 11am.
No word yet on distribution.
