Deschutes Jubelale Festive Winter Ale 2014

(Bend, OR) – Deschutes Brewery recently sent over some info on its fall/winter specialty releases including a newcomer. More below…

When: September-December

What: Seasonal (12-ounce bottles and draft)

A wee bit early to announce a winter beer? Deschutes Brewery couldn’t wait to share the inner and outer beauty of its 2014 Jubelale. Inside the bottle, fans will find the flavor they’ve come to know that hearkens in the cooler months of fall: layered flavors of warm spiciness, dried fruit and a hoppy finish. Outside the bottle, this year’s packaging features original fiber artwork from Bend, Oregon’s Lubbesmeyer Studio showing two people sledding in a playful winter landscape. The first beer that the brewery ever bottled, 2014 marks the 27th bottling of Jubelale.

Deschutes Hop Trip Fresh Hop Ale

Hop Trip: A Fresh Hop Pale Ale

When: October until it’s gone

What: Bond Street Series (6-packs and draft)

We know we’re lucky to be located right in the heart of hop-growing country. And the beer that ensues from this proximity is big and bold. When the Crystal hops at Sodbuster Farms are ready for harvest, our crew gets in the truck to go pick them, bag them, load them and dump the freshly harvested jewels into the brew kettle – all in just a few hours. The results of this hurried journey? A pale ale with a uniquely bright citrus punch to the nose. Worth the trip, every time.

Deschutes Chasin' Freshies 2014

Chasin’ Freshies: A Fresh Hop IPA

When: October until it’s gone

What: Bond Street Series (22-ounce bottles and draft)

When winter comes here in Deschutes Brewery’s hometown of Bend, Oregon, we all start the chase. That is, the chase for fresh, untouched powder on the slopes of our local ski hill, Mt. Bachelor. This pursuit of perfection is reflected as Deschutes Brewery chases down Mosaic hops from John I Haas Farms for this year’s vintage of Chasin’ Freshies: A Fresh Hop IPA. Each year, the beer features a different fresh hop from our rich, Pacific Northwest hop-growing country, and is a nod to the snow and hop enthusiasts we’ve entertained for the last 26 years at our original public house in downtown Bend.

The Dissident

When: October until it’s gone

What: Reserve Series (22-ounce wax-dipped bottles and draft)

To tell you the truth, I hesitated to even list The Dissident on this helpful media tip sheet. You see, it’s my favorite beer, and I don’t want everyone buying it up before I hoard my bi-annual allotment. But, in the spirit of sharing, I must let you know that this magnificent sour ale will return this fall. Eighteen plus months in isolation, The Dissident is a distinctive Flanders-style sour brown ale, with a fruity aroma and flavor. Wild yeasts brettanomyces and lactobacillus impart its characteristic sour taste and a lavish amount of Oregon cherries – pits, stems and all – creates balanced perfection. It’s our wildest, most pampered beer.

An energetic and passionate combination of the culinary and craft brewing worlds, Zarabanda is a spiced Saison that’s been years in the making. They worked together throughout this spiced Saison‘s development, infusing the final product with the authentic and distinctive flavors that represent Andrés’ innovation along with Deschutes’ enthusiasm for experimentation and adventure. The Abyss

When: November

What: Reserve Series (22-ounce wax-dipped bottles and draft)

One of Deschutes Brewery’s most beloved beers, the magical liquid that is The Abyss returns for its ninth year in the late fall of 2014. This Imperial Stout is the heart and soul of our Reserve Series, and once again it invites fans to crack open the wax-dipped seal and fall right into its complexity. The Abyss has almost immeasurable depth and complexity with hints of molasses, licorice and other alluring flavors. As for the great “drink it now or let it age” debate, we stand clearly on the fence. Distinct and delicious on release, the flavors meld and fuse into an entirely different pleasure after some time in the cellar.
