Press Release:

(Larkspur, CA) – Today marks only the second time in the 26-year history of the Marin Brewing Company we’ll be pouring an Imperial Stout, and we’ll also be barreling half of the batch for release in a year.

Our new Titania Imperial Stout, coming in at just under 10 percent ABV and 70 IBU’s, is now available in limited release at the Marin Brewing Company and selected taprooms. According to Brewmaster Arne Johnson, this Imperial Stout has notes of “chocolate and cherries with just a hint of roast. It’s a very rich, yet smooth beer. The alcohol is well hidden.”

This beer tends towards an English style stout, with some mild herbal, earthy, and fruity character contributed by UK Challenger hops. Its distinctive smoothness comes from the use of de-husked German roasted malt and Belgian dark candi sugar.

A year from now we’ll release the second half of the Titania Imperial Stout for those who enjoy barrel-aged beer. The stout will age in bourbon barrels are from Breckenridge Distillery in Breckenridge, Colorado. Previously the barrels were used to age high-rye content bourbon at nearly 10,000 feet above sea level, giving the barrels a unique flavor profile. According to Roge Chevalier with Breckenridge Distillery, “The barrels will impart a peppery and spicy note with hints of oak and honey, resulting in a finished product that tastes like rye toast with a drizzle of honey.” “We are big fans of Breckenridge Bourbon, and we feel that its qualities will complement the stout perfectly” says Johnson.

The barrel aging, which occurs through micro oxygenation, will help to smooth and mellow the flavors and the hops’ bitterness.
