Their Irish Stout is actually a lager (It says both stout and lager on the label)? Before I looked too closely, I was excited about the prospect of a widely available national brand making a (hopefully) lower-cost alternative to Guinness. I rarely drink Guiness because I don’t like paying their overinflated asking price, so a cheaper alternative would be right up my alley (I like the Saranac Irish Stout, which fits the bill, but it’s only out in the spring). Calling an irish stout a lager right on their label doesn’t leave me brimming with confidence that this will be any good, though.
heh, looks like a mistake by someone at the company but I trust this is actually a stout and not some kind of otherwordly stout lager hybrid beer
i’ll bet it’s bottom-fermented…. more of a black lager-ish. thing.
I’ve had it and it is very good. It is dark and doesn’t have that thick taste like Guiness. Definitely can tell the difference between this and a lager. It’s no lager.
I am a drinker of the darker beers, and just tried it Not Bad!
I’m a porter, stout, barley-wine kinda guy. Stout or lager, I don’t care. Its a damn good beer. Hope it stays around, so when I can only make to the grocery store. This is going to be the one.
