New Hampshire-based Pennichuck Brewing will be releasing for the first time in bombers its award-winning The Big O Oktoberfest Lager later this year. The beer has a very light (imported) hop profile: Czech Saaz, Hallertau-Hersbrucker, Nugget and Tettnanger and features Vienna and caramel malt. The Big O won silver last year and bronze the prior year at GIBF. We’ll add this to our calendar -and eventually update it ; ) – when we know when this will be released.

bridgeport-hop-czar-thumb-092-100Oregon-based Bridgeport Brewing appears to be ready to release Hop Czar, a double IPA, as part of the ‘Big Brews’ Series. The beer is triple hopped, resulting in 100 IBUs. John Foyston of The Beer Here has more on this one.

the-bruery-thumb-100-067Finally, we got a tip from Joey at SouthBayDrugs that The Bruery is now barrel-aging its first special release, Levud’s. The beer, a Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale at 11% ABV, is being aged in whiskey barrels. We don’t have an exact case count though this will be extremely limited when it comes out, possibly to the tune of 40-50 cases or less. They’re also barrel-aging a 20% stout to come out next year.

  1. The Bruery’s Imperial Stout would have to reach a terminal gravity of 4 Plato to reach the 20% alcohol range. Seems unlikely… 37 P to 4 Plato. Best of Luck!

  2. It’s great to see coverage of our beers! Thanks!

Grassroots is right, it is very tough to get to the 20% ABV mark. This initial release will be in the 17-18% range, as the base beer tastes great and I don’t want to screw it up with enzymes and champagne or distillers yeast! I’m reluctant to sacrifice flavor for alcohol just for the sake of getting above 20%. This beer is aging in bourbon barrels and won’t be released until October 2009 or so.

    Cheers,
    Patrick
