Listermann Brewing Supply expands into craft brewing

(Evanston, OH) – The Ohio-based homebrewing supplier has earned an A+ rating on Beer Advocate for its services after over fifteen years in business. Now, Listermann Brewing Supply is stepping into a different kind of game. It will still be selling supplies to its homebrewing customers but will now also launch its own brand of beers to the market for the first time. Listermann Wild Mild is the first release in a series of small batch beers. The beer is a bottle-conditioned English style ale and will be released in bombers.

Jon Newberry did a great piece on the new brewing operation last month for the Business Courier of Cincinnati, highlighting Dan Listermann’s small brewing shop and the huge changes underway in its downtown surroundings. What’s most important to us, however, is the beer and the article did shed some light on two more beers to follow the Wild Mild:

Cream Ale, a nod to Cincinnati’s long patronage of Little Kings Cream Ale, created in the 1950s by the Schoenling Brewing Co.;
Malt Liquor, a dry, high-alcohol style that’s been neglected by craft brewers, in Listermann’s opinion.

The beers will only be sold at the shop for the time being though they may see some distribution later in the year. What impresses us most about them is the price tag: a measly $2.75 a bomber per the article. As far as release status, as of last week, the brewery was awaiting label approval from the state. If the bottles aren’t available already, they should be very soon.
