Beer notes SoCal: Ballast Pt. to bring back Sculpin IPA & Stone, Bruery, Green Flash…

Ballast Point Brewing announced on its Myspace blog yesterday that it will bring back the #5 ranked American IPA in the world, Sculpin IPA, though it gave little details as to when that would be. Rest assured, however; for those who don’t like to wait, a very limited seven-barrel batch of Dorado Double IPA is now on draft at the breweries.

The Bruery posted some interesting news on its blog as well. Today, the boys are brewing up Autumn Maple, their new fall seasonal. What’s unique about this one is that instead of just adding the traditional pumpkin spices that you may see in various autumn ales, The Bruery is “hand roasting 440 lbs of yams on the barbeque” to throw into this brew. Would that make this the first yam beer ever?

Joey from South Bay Drugs informed me that a first-time bottling of Green Flash Le Freak should be available for sale within a week or so. The beer is a combination of a Belgian-style Tripel and an American IPA, and will be hitting normal distribution accounts, even reaching as far as South Carolina.

Speaking of The Palmetto State, Stone Brewing is apparently distributing to that state very soon. Rumors on Beer Advocate are that the Stone beers could be available as early as this weekend or as late as sometime in September. As for the rest of us, Stone Belgian Style Triple Ale was just bottled this past week, according to Brewmaster, Mitch Steele, on the latest Brewing Network podcast. And Steele has some news of his own considering his taking part in the 21st Amendment’s new “Brewer Outreach Program.”
