(Saint Paul, MN) – Flat Earth Brewing is bringing a bunch of new Belgian-style beers to the market this summer. According to the latest newsletter, the official release of Flat Earth Ovni Ale, the first of the releases, will be at Acadia Café (329 Cedar Ave. S. in Minneapolis) on Wednesday the 6th from 6 – 9 p.m. Ovni is a Biere de Garde that uses Strisselspalt hops and a variety of malts including Belgian Caramunich. The name of the beer is an abbreviation for “Objet Volant Non-Identifié” in French (similar to other languages) which translates to “Unidentified Flying object” in English. It playfully references an old theory that the ball lightning strike on the Eiffel Tower in 1902 was actually not lightning but a UFO.
Joining Ovni Ale on shelves is Flat Earth Convention Ale, a Belgian Red Ale that we previewed last month. MNBeer revealed the new labels on its blog last week. This will also be released in the Denver area according to owner, Jeff Williamson. He also mentioned last month that Flat Earth Bermuda Triangle Triple should also be just around the corner. Rode Haring Flanders Red will follow as the last of the Belgian releases this summer. [ed: does anyone know what happened with the Black Helicopter label?]
The brewery will also bring its (nearly) full lineup to Great Taste of the Midwest 2008 next weekend. After that, Flat Earth will feature Black Earth, a mix of Guinness and its Belgian Pale Ale, at the Renaissance Festival which starts August 16.
