Beer notes PNW: Widmer Bros. Brewmasters W’09, Pelican Brewery, Cascade Brewing

Portland-based Widmer Brothers recently got label approval for its 2009 Brewmasters’ Release (W’09). The next rendition will be a Belgian-style Golden Ale. It will be interesting to see the IBU level considering Widmer Brothers boasts a “generous addition of hops.” The beer should be out in January of next year, barring any schedule change from prior releases.

Elsewhere in Portland, Cascade Brewing recently debuted Cuvee du Jongleur. Commercial description: “a blend of select barrels of Flanders Reds, Triples, and Blond Quads that have undergone lactic fermentation and barrel aging up to 18 months.” Early beer reviews indicate that this could be the low-key brewpub’s best offering yet. There was a release party already this month so you should contact the brewery as to its availability. Portland Beer recently paid a visit and got some great photos along the way. An upcoming story is planned at the blog.

Finally, Pelican Brewery has released its fresh hop ale on tap: Elemental Ale. “Brewed only once a year at peak hop season, this beer is made with 400 pounds of freshly picked, “wet” Sterling hops from Goschie Farms in Silverton, OR.” Brewing photos can be found at the Pelican site (slow connections may choose to avoid as all pics are on one page).

Lastly, if you are in the Portland/Oregon area and are interested in new beers on tap, check out the Oregon Brewers Guild website.  They update at least a couple times a week.  Below are some new/returning beers coming soon on tap that got label approvals recently:

  • Widmer Citra IPA – Portland, OR
  • Two Beers Fall Ale – Seattle, WA
  • Laughing Dog Rocket Dog – Ponderary, ID
  • Laughing Dog Hop Dog Fresh Hop Ale – Ponderay, ID
