Beer notes: Southern Tier Oat, Alesmith Barrel-Aged Speedway Stout, Valley Brew Uberhoppy, more

Southern Tier Oat

Valley Brew Uberhoppy is reportedly now on tap at the Stockton, CA, brewpub. The imperial IPA is an award-winner and currently ranked 33rd overall among all styles at RateBeer. Being a tap-only selection, the news may only be helpful to those in the area. If growler fills are an option, however, it makes for excellent trade bait.

Alesmith announced yesterday evening another release of its 2007 Barrel-Aged Speedway Stout. The release date has been set noon on September 26. $20/ per person with a two-bottle limit.

Southern Tier Oat just made its way into stores over the weekend, including parts of the Midwest already. Last year marked the first wide release of the imperial oatmeal stout and it immediately became one of the brewery’s most highly regarded beers.

Fresh bottles of Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster, an imperial red ale, have also arrived in shops in the last week or two. The brewery hopes to package the third edition of the Side Project Series, Gamma Ray, this week.

Great Lakes Brewing is releasing Nosferatu again. If it hasn’t hit your store yet, it should soon. I hope to have an update on Great Lakes Barrel-Aged Blackout sometime next month.

Lastly, if you are in the Denver area on Wednesday, it may be your only chance to get to try Isabelle Proximus, which will be sold in bottles. The Falling Rock Taphouse will be hosting a Lost Abbey event that night and will tap kegs of Wipeout IPA, Hop 15, Devotion & Judgment Day.
