(Boston, MA) – Harpoon Brewery will debut Chocolate Stout later this winter according to a label approval that came in this week. An interesting play considering that this is a style that could appease both seasoned beer connoisseurs and the broader drinking public. Despite the variety of styles that Harpoon produces, this is a rare trip in the stout style. It appears as though they have only brewed two to date: an Imperial Stout and an Oatmeal Stout, both released as part of the 100 Barrel Series. This is the first one to don a classic Harpoon label theme similar to its flagship beers, but is still only a limited edition brew.
On a side note, for those looking for Harpoon’s new Leviathan Series, the first bottle release, Leviathan Imperial IPA is now beginning to hit stores in the Boston area. I recommend hitting up this thread at Beer Advocate for details on where to find it there. As far as other areas, I am not sure how far the distribution will reach for these beers, but I will post an update on the Buy Beer page as soon as I see it is available online.
