Stone Brewing just sent a notice to its newsletter subscribers tonight that it is looking to join the foray of recent craft brewery expansions. After moving out of their old digs, now inhabited by Port Brewing (a little fuzzy on the details here if someone wants to help out), the brewery has already outgrown its space in just three years.
They are looking for 50,000 – 55,000 square feet of space with four to six loading docks. “As an interim step while we build a new place, or keep looking if the search takes us longer than we hope,” they could also be looking to lease a smaller space of about 15,000 to 20,000 feet.
According to the Stone Wikipedia page, “the new brewery currently has a capacity of 70,000 US beer barrels per year, with capacity expandable up to 250,000 barrels.” No source is cited for that statistics. The brewery was ranked 20th in April’s top 50 craft brewers list released by the Brewers’ Association.
Holy cow… They literally JUST moved into this space! I remember the big hoopla they had when they held their Stone Brew festival in the dirt lot while it was being completed. I guess even Stone didn’t see this much growth coming… Good for them. And good for them that they’re not going to contract brew it out, either. I do kinda hope they keep the same feel and attitude. And oh man… What are they going to do with the attached restaurant that took them years to build??
They’re staying put. They’re just planning on a 2nd place to operate as well.
