(Bodegraven, NETHERLANDS) – The Shelton Brothers are going to bring another gem across the Atlantic. De Molen Hel and Verdoemenis (Hell and Damnation) is an imperial stout ranked in the top 100 at RateBeer and the top-rated beer in the brewery’s arsenal. The stout is 10.2% ABV and the whopping 100 IBU hop profile includes Premiant hops for bittering and German Hallertau hops for finishing.
For those not familiar with Premiant hops, they are produced under the Bohemia Hop Company from the Czech Republic. Premiant and another variety, Sladek, were bred using Saaz hops which are obviously much more commonly found. And from the Hop Growers Union of the Czech Republic comes news of more Czech hops coming down the pipeline: “Agnus also shows very promising results. Recently a new aroma variety Harmonie and a bitter variety Rubin were registered.”
Back to De Molen, it looks like this beer, unlike the brewery’s first imports that hit U.S. shores earlier this year, will be released in 750mL bottles. Expect to see this in late ’08 or early ’09.
