(Denver, CO) – Before you get too excited, there is no guarantee that Great Divide Baumer ever gets put in . . . bombers, and even if it does, it may be just as limited as the recent releases of Whiskey-Aged Yeti Imperial Stout and Old Ruffian Barley Wine…
Bill Brand’s IBA Buzz Beer Blog has been on fire over the past couple days because of his GABF visit. He is posting left and right and I swear that he is using one of those motorized carts to get around so that he can have laptop access at all times.
He broke the news that Port Hop-15 was named Alpha King tonight over dozens of other IPAs and DIPAs. And less than 24 hours ago, he tipped off readers to a big surprise coming from Great Divide Brewing.
From Brand’s post: “Brewer Taylor Reese said its a blend of two Great Divide Beers, Hades, a 7,.2 percent Belgian-style golden ale and Samurai, their 5 percent rice beer. Hades was aged with fresh raspberries in wooden whiskey barrels. Fermentation was brettanomyces wild yeast and a bacteria package. Samurai was aged in steel. The two beers have only been aging three months […] Wild beer: Hit of raspberries, then mild maltiness, then a rising sourness.”
This is not listed as one of the beers pouring at the Great American Beer Festival but could show up as a surprise offering or possibly part of the judging competition. No timetable known yet [ed: one of those beers where it needs to do its thing for a while though I would guess winter/spring ’09 based on three months of aging so far].
