Iron Horse The Beer Shoppe 2nd Anniversary Ale will be a Black IPA

Iron Horse Beer Shoppe 2nd Anniversary Ale

(Ellensburg, WA) – Iron Horse Brewery recently got label approval for its 2nd Anniversary Ale. This year’s version of The Beer Shoppe will be a 7% ABV Black IPA in contrast to last year’s Imperial IPA. The 1st Anniversary Ale was easily the brewery’s top-rated beer to date though the sample of reviews is incomplete as few bottles of these beers were produced. The timing here is confusing as reviews didn’t start pouring in for the 1st Anniversary beer until this past summer. It could be a while before this is released.

The argument for a ‘Black IPA’ category has been picking up some steam this year. See these RateBeer threads:

Dogzilla Black IPA has convinced me – there is a new style

New Category

Do you think there should be a “Dark IPA” category?

Truth be told, I have not entirely read these threads yet but if anyone wants to summarize where we are at with things in the comments, be my guest.

  1. Looks like some people are getting it right by calling it an India Dark Ale. A dark IPA category on the other hand just doesn’t make sense to me. India PALE ale, right? So a Dark Pale Ale?

I also would like to see

    IRA (India Red Ale)
and even someone taking a stab at

    ISA (India Smoked Ale)
