(Cincinnati, OH) – Following up on my initial report on the brewery’s Mild Ale, Listermann Brewing Supply recently got federal label approval for a cream ale and an imperial malt liquor. According to Owner/Brewmaster, Dan Listermann, the “#42 Cream Ale (see pic below) is finishing fermentation now and will be out when the state approves the label – hopefully shortly.” The 186,000 MPS Malt Liquor will be brewed when the second fermenter comes on line and is projected to be around 10.5%. These beers will only be available at Listermann’s homebrewing shop and a few other spots in Cincinnati.
Bucking current American brewing trends, Listermann has not released a pale ale or a stout yet. Cream ales aren’t all that uncommon though Beer Advocate raters have apparently determined that there is room for improvement. Lagunitas Sirius is the top beer in the style, but only with a 3.77 rating. The American Malt Liquor category only has two beers rated over a 3.0 average in the top 10, one from Rogue and one from Dogfish Head. A 10.5% malt liquor would put Listermann’s beer right up there among the strongest ever produced.
