Pike Brewing to release Entire Wood Aged Stout

Pike Entire Wood Aged Stout

(Seattle, WA) – One of the pillars of the Northwest brewing scene will release a new beer in the coming months. Just shy of its 20th anniversary year, Pike Brewing is poised to come out with Entire Wood Aged Stout. Brewmaster for two years running, Drew Cluley, is responsible for the new creation: a big, hoppy stout at 9.5% ABV and 60 IBU. The name could mean at least a couple things, but is most likely a take on a historical style of porter.

The style, either known as “Entire Porter or Entire Butt Porter,” may use a variety of different ales, different runnings of the same beer, or at the very least, a boatload of ingredients (sometimes upwards of a dozen malts and hops though this may not be true to style?). The only other ‘Entire Stout’ out in the market is a bottle-conditioned stout made from Hopback Brewery, like most of these others, located in the UK.

Pike XXXXX Stout is already among the top stouts in the world. While the new beer dons an ‘XXXXXX’ mark on the label, it isn’t yet clear as to whether this is a bigger version of the existing beer. It will be a late ’08 or early ’09 release in bombers.
