A few Brewmasters Reserve beers revealed

Full Sail Keelhauler

(Hood River, OR) – Full Sail Brewing annually releases a mix of beers called the Brewmasters’ Reserve Series. Some return while others change year to year. Nine beers were released in last year’s set.

Late last month, three beers were approved for next year’s series, none of which were part of the 2008 batch. Imperial Porter will return, apparently with no bourbon barrel aging this time. Grandsun of Spot, a regular IPA, sounds like a spin off of the similarly named Son of Spot which was an ’07 Reserve release. Finally, the brewery will make what appears to be its first Scottish ale in Keelhauler. It is possible that these will be among the earlier releases in ’09 since they are the first to get approval but I wasn’t able to confirm this. Oh, and for what it’s worth, I looked up the definition of “keelhauler” and didn’t find much except for this:

Keelhauling was a form of corporal punishment that was formerly practiced as a punishment in the Dutch and English navies. It was used as a way to punish members of the crew who were guilty of serious breaches of the ship’s code of conduct. Keelhauling involved tying the hands of a crewmember to a rope and hauling him under the keel of the ship. It was formally abolished in 1853. – Cal Maritime Keelhaulers

As for the rest of this year’s series, the recurring Wreck the Halls IPA is to come sometime this month. This year’s Old Boardhead Barleywine should have been released as well (can anyone confirm? Thanks, Theo).

  1. No bombers of WtH this year–draft only

’09 bourbon barrel beer will be the Imp Stout, the porter and stouts will alternate yearly in the bourbon barrel release.
