Two new brews go on tap at Dogfish Head, Victory Brewing

The Northeastern region got a couple new beers on tap over the weekend: Dogfish Head Arms Akimbo and Victory Yakima Twilight.

Arms Akimbo just went on tap at the Dogfish Alehouse in Rehoboth Beach, DE. The brew quickly became quite popular with the Beer Advocate crowd. “This deeply robust Porter was brewed with star anise, molasses and balsam fir tips from Dogfish Head, Maine.” Ahh, my home state. More tasting notes over at the Dogfish Head website. And if the term, “arms akimbo,” sounds familiar, it refers to the stance in which someone has their hands on their hips with their elbows bent (picture a disapproving/angry parent).

Meanwhile, Victory Yakima Twilight is a new one-off double IPA that is also draft-only. Memphis Taproom in Philadelphia is the only confirmed location that has it right now. 8.9% and a few different malts and hops used in this one.

On a side note, most of you have seen it by now but for the few that haven’t, there was a great piece on DFH Founder/President, Sam Calagione, (and craft beer) in a recent issue of The New Yorker. Click there for the full text and see the Beer Advocate thread for follow-up which clarifies some comments made by Brooklyn Brewery’s Garrett Oliver in the article. Reading through both could easily take you a half hour or so but is well worth it so grab a beer.
