Holiday beer pays tribute to American Veterans

High and Mighty Home for the Holidays

(Holyoke, MA) – High and Mighty Brewing, a project started up by Will Shelton of the Shelton Brothers (and others?) has produced their sixth beer to appear in bombers.  Shelton plans to donate a $1 off of every bottle of Home for the Holidays to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, and says it could end up being more next year.

According to IAVA.org, the charity, founded in 2004, is “the nation’s first and largest group dedicated to the Troops and Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the civilian supporters of those Troops and Veterans.”  The idea came after seeing the founder on MSNBC.  Then he read a heartbreaking story in the New Yorker about a marine that went to Iraq six times, ended up with posttraumatic stress disorder, and killed himself earlier this year.  Shelton had made up his mind.

The website description reads: “Home for the Holidays is a smooth, malty, warming

brown ale

, brewed with loads of roasted malts to give hints of chocolate and raisin, liberally dosed with noble Halletauer and Saaz hops, and fermented with a Belgian yeast strain.”

“It’s a very full-bodied dark brown ale, with lots of chocolate notes.  It’s bordering on a stout but without the heavily roasted malts you’d normally find in a stout.  Lots of brown malt and dark crystal malt.”

This

craft beer

is out in stores in the Massaschusetts area and (possibly) other parts of New England and New York where you can find other High and Mighty beers.
