(Petaluma, CA) – Lagunitas Brewing has quietly released another Frank Zappa tribute to the market. The release celebrates the 40th anniversary of Zappa’s fifth studio album, Cruising with Ruben and the Jets. According to Ratebeer, it is a “Chocolate pepper stout brewed to 8.6% ABV, with a healthy amount of chocolate nibs and a subtle zing of white peppercorns.”
For those who don’t know who
Frank Zappa
is, he was a rock legend that came onto the scenes in the 60s and spun a mad amount of records for at least two decades. From Allmusic: “Frank Zappa was one of the most accomplished composers of the rock era; his music combines an understanding of and appreciation for such contemporary classical figures as Stravinsky, Stockhausen, and Varèse with an affection for late-’50s doo wop rock & roll and a facility for the guitar-heavy rock that dominated pop in the ’70s. But Zappa was also a satirist whose reserves of scorn seemed bottomless and whose wicked sense of humor and absurdity have delighted his numerous fans, even when his lyrics crossed over the broadest bounds of taste.”
Zappa died in 1993 but his legacy lives online at Zappa.com
I had this beer last night in the bottle. It absolutely is delicous. The taste is sweet and the finish is one of white peppercorn.
I am a huge zappa fan and have apprecaited all of the tribute beers so far. I think this is my favorite to date.
Keep the word and music of Frank Zappa alive for the next generation. What a genuis.

I’nm looking for a retailer in MA that carries this fine brew. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Wish I could help but not too familiar. Best bet would be to call the stores nearby as they are generally pretty friendly or will at least check on a beer for you.
