[2/15 Update: Coffee Stout, Stone Soup, Iced Barleywine, and Crack’d Wheat all available as of early-mid February. Oh, and last year’s popular Alt release appears to be doneski.]
[1/1 Update: Unplugged schedule is now up on the site (though descriptions are not. Iced Barleywine = Feb, Imperial Saison = May, Olde English Porter = August, Eisbock = November]
(New Glarus, WI) – Following up on last month’s article containing a list of new New Glarus beers in ’09, more information about those craft beers surfaced on the New Glarus site this week.
Year-round Beers
Out is Uff-da Bock. In is
Stone Soup
and Crack’d Wheat. The brewery describes Stone Soup as a “sophisticated Abbey style ale,” using English and German hops, and “with spicy notes of clove and ginger.” No info available yet on Crack’d Wheat.
Seasonal Beers
Out is Road Slush and Edil Pils. In is
Black Wheat
, Coffee Stout, and Yokel. Starting things off next month will be the Coffee Stout which uses cold-pressed coffee from Just Co-op, based in Madison (a nice touch for the Fair Trade enthusiasts out there). Black Wheat will come in March, a dark Weiss with “Roasted chocolate and toasted caramel.” Rounding out the new seasonals will be Yokel in July. “Wisconsin, German and England barleys and the finest Bavarian hops combine in classsic German brewing methods.” For those wondering, it looks like Alt may be back next year though it isn’t listed on the schedule yet.
As for more info on those new Unpluggeds and the R&D Series of brewery-only releases, it looks like we will have to wait a bit longer. Stay tuned.
Hot damn! They actually listened and brought back Stone Soup! And made it year-round! Well, this is one of the first things lately that indicates 2009 will be a good year.
Cracked Wheat has me intrigued too, can’t wait to hear more about that and to try the Black Wheat.

Alt absolutely needs to come back. That is one insanely great beer.
This was all posted on TheBeerSpot.com back in November. Info on the Unplugged is also listed there.

None,
The link you provided contains no information that I posted in this article except for names of the beers.
I suggest that you check http://www.madisonbeerreview.com/ because, being local, they are undoubtedly the best source of info on all things New Glarus.
And remember that we are all on the same team as long as we are spreading the craft beer gospel.
Cheers!
OK, this is going to be a good year from New Glarus. First, they listen to me and bring back Stone Soup.
Now i see that they also sort of listened to me with Crack’d Wheat. I simply LOVED the Unplugged Imperial Weizen, and it appears that Crack’d Wheat is almost a “cousin” to Imperial Weizen. http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/beers.cfm?BeerID=38
Finally, get this description of the first 2009 Unplugged – Iced Barley Wine:
English aristocracy flaunted their wealth saving barley wines for exclusive friends. Our Iced Barley Wine is an intense brew of 28.5 degrees Plato OG. Frozen in the cellars over a powerful twelve week fermentation. You hold an elegant riot of bittersweet sherry and dark fruit earthy notes. Warm and expansive it will fill your senses. Great for contemplative sipping now or lay down for an elegant occasion with friends.
Oh my, what a good year we have ahead of us in Wisconsin!
