Beer notes: Boulevard Smokestack, New Belgium Lips, Founders KBS, Lagunitas

A rep from Boulevard Brewing revealed the tentative lineup for the Smokestack Series on Beer Advocate today. Boulevard BBQ and Saison-Brett will return and a tart Double Wit will be next in the series. A few other tidbits there as well.

Founders Brewing will apparently get a new label for Kentucky Breakfast Stout. Link to BA discussion. The release party is on March 14 but don’t be surprised to see the beer on shelves as early as next week since it will already be March (year is FLYING by).

New Belgium Brewing has put up more info on the Lips of Faith series since my last article a week ago. La Folie and Le Fleur Misseur will join Dark Kriek in others in bombers later this year. La Folie is what I would call “a classic” in the craft beer realm and LFM has a very respectable A- rating at Beer Advocate though with fewer reviews. LFM was New Belgium’s 15th anniversary beer and RateBeer calls it a “tip of the hat to Orval.” You can get more details about the beers at the New Belgium site.

lagunitas-thumb-100-95Lagunitas Brewing has posted up its beer schedule for the year, and as rumored, it looks like there will be no more Frank Zappa beers. There will, however, be a new beer called Recession Ale coming out in April-May. No details available on the style yet. And possibly a new winter beer as well at the end of 2009 (it says February 2009 but pretty sure that’s incorrect based on how the dates line up).

The Ebenezers Pub website got a facelift overnight.

Stumbled upon this review when searching for Founders Double Trouble info and found this by accident. Got a few laughs. It is ten minutes long but if I recall, there is a mid-sentence belch shortly after the 6-minute mark. Gotta love the southern beer folks!

  1. Amusement value aside (such as watching 20 drunken clowns stumbling around as they get out of a Trabant) what does this actually add to the understanding and exposition of craft beer? This could have 3 minutes long and possibly interesting, instead of 10 minutes long and self-indulgently stupid. It’s not that I don’t get the joke, but it’s like borscht belt comedy. It is time to move beyond “kicks ass” and belches and “weed..weeddddddd”. Really, that just happened and I’m a-movin’ on down the road… The last 2 minutes disappears into someone else’s
    wasted time 🙂
