The Heavy Table has the scoop on the newest beer to come out of Minnesota.

Summit Horizon Red

is “an emerging American hybrid ale that crosses the boundaries of styles. This red-hued ale projects an intensity of complex hops – yet allows the drinker to experience the balance and character of the malt. Floral, dry, hoppy […]”

The hop profile of Horizon, Amarillo, Cascade and Summit ups the IBU level to 65 or 70. It will be released this spring.

Stone Brewing, the king of collaborations in the U.S. announced on Twitter that it is working with Brewdog and Cambridge Brewing later this month. The mystery beer will be brewed in Escondido on March 27 with the brewers making an appearance at the Bistro the night before.

A Fox affiliate in Philadelphia has been providing some decent coverage of Philly Beer Week which wraps up this weekend. They posted up a video from the kickoff event and you can click some other PBW articles from there (hat tip to Flying Dog for the link). It is great to see that other cities like St. Louis and Baltimore will be picking up this kind of thing later this year.

A distributor rep announced on Beer Advocate that Pike Brewing will begin distributing its Stout, IPA and Barley Wine in New England “in the coming months.” This follows the introduction of Troegs Brewing and The Bruery into Massachusetts. It has been a good first quarter in 2009 for the region so far…

You are officially on notice that tickets are on sale for Beer Advocate’s American Craft Beer Fest. They are also looking for volunteers to work the event.

Finally, if you haven’t checked out the RateBeer Weekly column which shows what is happening with beer ratings this week, now is a good time to start. This year’s Goose Island Bourbon County Stout and Russian River Consecration continue to score high marks.
