In addition to Dark Lord Day, there is another popular beer event taking place on Saturday, April 25, and that is the Annual Earth Day Sale at Hair of the Dog Brewing in Oregon. As for what is for sale, Owner/Brewer, Alan Sprints, will have some new Hair of the Dog Fred sportswear, Fred from the Wood, a fresh batch of Blue Dot IPA, and more Hair of the Dog Matt. There may be other beers available; that is what Sprints posted on Facebook recently…
For those unable to get any Sierra Nevada Torpedo as it is sold out in many places, there is hope that more is coming in the near-future. This from Sierra Nevada’s Bill Manley (as posted on Beer Advocate): “We are scrambling to make more…we recently packaged nearly 1000 BBL’s and the warehouse here is filling up so hopefully it will be on store shelves near you soon. Don’t give up hope…we’re working on it. Our brewery has been hustling to get Summerfest in the bottle and Torpedo out onto store shelves. At the moment that’s all anybody can do.
The delay is not due to the lack of hops. We’ve got the hops (kind of) we just didn’t think Torpedo would sell as fast as it has. The hop confusion is focused on Citra hops (the tropical fruit flavod varietal I mentioned previously) That hops is in VERY limited production. 6.3 acres in total worldwide production in 2008. We own more than a quarter of that amount but still, its not very much. That said, there’s still Citra in every batch, but the flavor is not as pronounced as previously imagined. The good folks in Yakima told me yesterday they are increasing Citra production for 2009 from 6.3 acres to 40 acres so hopefully we can keep our contracts in place and bump up the hops after the fall harvest.”
