Slow weekend around here, huh? Trust me, I wasn’t vacationing. I am actually trying to learn some new code to make the site even better. If anyone out there can offer some help with WPDB, a WordPress class, please shoot me an email. Without further ado, onto the beer notes!

The Lost Abbey

Moved the Older Viscosity release date from early April to May 10. The latest email sent to Sinners: “Spring has sprung and the 2009 Bourbon Angel’s Share is ready for packaging. We are anticipating a mid April shipping/pickup date, nothing definite yet. We will update you when dates have been confirmed. The General Public release of this beer won’t be until May 9, at our Anniversary Party. More details about the release and party will be posted on the website.”

Goose Island

From Greg Hall: “Fyi, Juliet finally released. in stores now, but only around 100 cases so it will go quick. Also new is a saison called Sofie, new packaging on Matilda and Pere Jacques. I’m sampling them at Sam’s Marcy today from noon to 3pm We will certainly have some at BA gathering thursday too.”

Dogfish Head

From Sam Calagione: “Late this spring we will be coming out with Squall IPA in limited east coast markets. It’s an unfiltered, full-on bottle conditioned and dry-hopped 9% abv, champagne-bottled IPA called Squall co-branded between our companies [with Rogues Gallery (www.dandyrogue.com)].”

Surly Brewing

The 3 new 60 bbl-fermentors we bought for seasonal beers…well, we have them filled up with Furious, Bitter Bender and Cynic. Just yesterday we filled every fermentor in the place. That, plus the beer in the brite tanks, puts us at 909 barrels of beer in tanks. For comparison, we sold 874 barrels of beer our first year in 2006!

Firestone Walker

Lastly, Firestone Walker has some new draft-only beers on the way, one being Li’l Opal, that are/will be popping up around California. On April 17, one such pub, O’Brien’s in San Diego, will have on tap: “Union Jack IPA, Walker’s Reserve Porter, Lil’ Opal Specialty Brew, and Abacus bourbon barrel aged Barley Wine and perhaps a firkin!”

From the brewery site: “There will be four limited draft-only releases in 2009 starting March 1. Each release will consist of less than 100 kegs and be available to select accounts throughout California.

The first release on March 1 will be a Belgian pale called Little Opal, which was originally released on a limited basis in select test markets last year.”
