(Milford, NH) – Straight from the newsletter, the full lowdown on what is new at Pennichuck Brewing:
Many of you may already know that we introduced a new beer called Chief’s Imperial IPA. It was brewed and dry hopped using a total of 57 pounds of 5 different hops. The malt character seems to be masking some of it so we made a few changes to our second tank that is scheduled to be packaged out next week. Our PA distributor purchased most of the 1st tank and the 2nd tank is already sold to a number of other distributors. It’s an awesome beer that we expect to brew much more of next year keeping it to 60bbls this year so we can tweak it and have it where we want the locked in recipe to be for next year.
Besides, we needed to free up tank space for our award winning Feuerwehrmann Schwarzbier which is a German Black Lager. The first tank is in and is about 3 weeks away from packaging with a 2nd and 3rd tank scheduled to be brewed very soon. We love this beer and despite it’s very black appearance, it makes for a nice springtime beer.
As soon as we clear the three tanks of Feuerwehrmann, we will be brewing another new beer which will be dubbed, Rustwagen Hefeweizen. Rustwagen is the German word for Rescue Truck. This will be a traditional unfiltered German Hefeweizen that will be available until the end of August. We have not yet finalized the recipe nor have we settled on the exact yeast but we are sure this will be something that shouldn’t be missed. Served chilled with fresh raspberries or a slice of orange, Rustwagen is sure to become a seasonal favorite.
In more recent news, I received an email from my good friend Jorgen Hasselqvist, owner of a pub in Stockholm, Sweden, called Oliver Twist. Jorgen managed to get a keg of Halligan IPA and a keg of Pozharnik ERIS from our PA distributor. Jorgen told me in an email today that Halligan kicked in one night and Pozharnik was put on today and not expected to last until tomorrow. I look forward to meeting with Jorgen at the Craft Brewers Conference in Boston on 4/20 then hopefully joining him in Stockholm this year for the Stockholm Beer Festival.
We also just received our Georgia license and approved brand registrations last week. Our distributor for the whole state is Savannah Distributing located in Tucker and Savannah, GA. I received their first purchase order yesterday and plan to ship by 4/17. We are excited to finally be available in the state I lived in for 10 years before moving to New Hampshire. I’ll be headed down there in a couple of months to work some tasting and beer dinner events and hope you’ll join us if you are around. Stay tuned.
Least I forget, we now have a Facebook group so you can follow our event listings. Look us up by name if you dare. Feel free to also add James Moriarty, our Head Brewer and myself to your friends list.
The last piece of news is something I’ve been working on for a couple of months now. I have been in talks with the American Craft Beer Partners who are the Shanghai, China, importers of American beer into China. Josh, my contact, is flying in to Boston, also for the CBC and he plans to drive up to Milford for a visit and further discussions on getting Pennichuck beers into China. We look forward to moving this project along.
