(San Marcos, CA) – Port Brewing is working on a new beer to honor a fallen SoCal-area homebrewer and friend. Brother Levonian Saison will not be released to the public though it will be available for the June American Homebrewers Conference and the Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club. Just about everything you need to know has been posted by one of the minds behind the brew (and Levonian’s best friend) at the Zuvaruvi blog.
“Dave Levonian was a homebrewer, QUAFF member, and a very approachable guy. Just one of the nicest guys you’ve ever met. He passed away in 2008 at way too young an age. Dave loved Saisons…LOVED them. In his memory, a couple of the brewers in San Diego – Colby Chandler and Dean Rouleau – have brewed “Brother Levonian” commemorative beers with proceeds going to Dave’s daughter’s college fund.” Ballast Point was one of those breweries.
An additional sidenote from Port Brewing on this beer:
“Brother Levonian was the first beer Port’s new head brewer, Mike Rodriguez, brewed after coming over from Boulevard Brewing. It used 300lbs of fresh tangerine peel. I know because we spent a day picking them, and all of Red Poppy release day peeling them.”
