(Lambertville, NJ) – River Horse Brewing is adding a new year-round Double IPA this summer, one that has already appeared on draft as a pilot beer at The Flying Pig and The High Street Grille, among others. The beer will be released around June 1 and will be available in all current River Horse markets in either bottle or draft.

River Horse Hopalotamus

is a 7.8% IPA featuring an interesting hop mix of Perle, Cluster, and Cascade. Perle and Cluster may not be as popular as Cascade and some other varietals used in the U.S. but both have significant history. According to High Gravity Brew, “Introduced into the U.S. in the late 1980’s and grown in both Washington and Oregon states. Perle is the most-used hop variety of those grown in Germany.” As for Cluster, Brewer’s Connection says, “Cluster is the oldest variety grown in the U.S. Origin of the rootstock is uncertain. Until the late 1970s, it was one of only a few varieties growing in the U.S.”

This is the brewery’s first IPA.
