Beer notes: Short’s Magician, Bells Oracle, Great Lakes Erie Monster

great-lakes-erie-monsterAccording to a rep from Holiday Market in Royal Oaks, posted on Beer Advocate, here are the release details for Bells Oracle Double IPA: “10.4% around 110 IBU DIPA released in Michigan hopefully the end of this week beginning of next week. They only made 50 barrels, loose cases, Hopslam pricing get it while you can. Very short supply from what Im hearing from my distributor.” These beers will be sold as loose 12 oz. singles as opposed to being sold in six-packs.

Short’s Brewing will introduce a new year-round beer according to its website (damn, they make a lot of beers). Short’s Magician is “a lustrous dark red London ale. Rich malt complexities lending notes of toasted caramel, raisins, toffee, and slight roast chocolate. Very light hop additions let the true malt characters promenade throughout the tasting enjoyment this beer offers.” Lots of new info on the recent release of Soft Parade and brewery expansion (and a video interview) can be found in Kalamabrew’s report from last week. The brewery chimed in on Beer Advocate yesterday with more details including plans to “release Liberator and Cup A Joe in December.”

Finally, Great Lakes Brewing reported in its latest newsletter (last week) that Lake Erie Monster Imperial IPA is back. The beer “is now available in 22 oz. bottles in the GLBC Gift Shop for only $10/bottle. Limit 6 bottles/person/day while supplies last.”

ABV: 9.0% ABW: 7.2% IBU: 92

Special thanks to artist William Stout for this year’s Lake Erie Monster label artwork.”
