(Holland, MI) – New Holland Brewing released Ichabod Pumpkin Ale this week. The beer makes its return in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virgina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and will soon be available in New Jersey.

I could be mistaken but it looks like there is a new High Gravity Series beer coming out in bottles: New Holland Charkoota Rye. The beer got label approval in the past week. The brewery website indicates that is available in 22 oz. bottles though I think they mean that in the future tense as there are no bottle reviews out there yet.

My guess is that the brew will be released at the end of September in time for Porkapalooza since its a pig-themed beer (it always makes an appearance on draft at various dinners featuring pork).

Website description: “Charkoota Rye is a Smoked Rye Dopplebock. An homage to all things Pig, including Porkapalooza and the age-old tradition of Charcuterie, Charkoota Rye’s malty backbone is derived from a blend of rye and four other malts, including malted barley smoked over cherry wood by our very own brewers, John and Jeff. Its smoke-forward body is balanced with tones of deep mollasses and caramel, with a crisp, clean lager finish.”

Finally, the brewery is currently appealling to the state of Michigan on a new unannounced price freeze. It is causing trouble for a new Vodka that New Holland has produced. New Holland wants to sell it at $25 though the freeze means it is stuck at $12.
