Beer notes: Terrapin Pumpkinfest, Victory Brewing, Sinners Blend 09, Sierra Nevada Scotch Ale

Victory Brewing has just released its newest package, Victory Helios. Brewmaster/Co-Founder, Bill Covalevski, was pretty innovative in doing a formal video launch for the beer on Youtube. According to Covalevski, the beer is a re-packaging of V-Saison, driven in part by the desire to make it more affordable. We debuted the label for Helios here over six months ago after someone revealed it on Beer Advocate. A couple other Victory Brewing tidbits: According to Richard Ruch’s comments on the LDO blog, “the first batch of [Victory Yakima Twilight] has been bottled and will soon be available at distributors. Both a CO2 and cask conditioned version of YT will be available at the brewpub….the CO2 version should be on draft today, followed by cask-conditioned version.” The brewery also tweeted that it will soon be distributing to California.

Terrapin Beer Co.‘s latest email newsletter revealed that the brewery is releasing two seasonals and two new one-offs next month. This is the first mention of Terrapin Pumpkin Fest, Side Project Volume 8. Expect a label to be posted here soon. Depth Charge, the 2nd collaboration with Left Hand Brewing will debut as well. Returning will be Gamma Ray and Big Hoppy Monster.

Draft-only label approval for a new beer from Sierra Nevada Brewing came through last week though it won’t be widely available: there is only one five gallon keg of it. Damn! For those of you attending the Rare Beer Tasting at Wynkoop during the Denver Beer Fest, this is for you. Sierra Nevada is bringing a Single-malt Scotch barrel-aged Scotch ale (say that five times fast). The beer measures 9.4% ABV.

Finally, Port Brewing/The Lost Abbey‘s Tomme Arthur revealed on Beer Advocate last week that the 2009 Sinners Blend is a combination of Ten Commandments aged in Bourbon Barrels, Gift of the Magi in French Oak Barrels and Serpent’s Stout aged in Port Barrels.”
