Troegs Splinter Series details emerge

(Harrisburg, PA) – Ed Yashinsky, Troegs Brewing Manager, has come out with details about the upcoming limited-release Splinter Series. These will be barrel-aged one-offs only available at the brewery. There will be bottle limits considering there are approximately 300 bottles for the first two releases and 200 bottles (all 750 mL) for subsequent releases.

The brewery has received four label approvals: Black, Red, Gold, and Blue so we can expect to see at least four beers. Speculation on Beer Advocate (neither confirmed nor denied by Yashinsky) is that the first release will be Barrel-Aged Mad Elf and the second will be Barrel-Aged Scratch 3. Scratch 3 was a Belgian-style Tripel. [Ed. Note: the brewery has updated its website but deleted all specific Scratch Series details in the process so I’m storing it until it returns if ever] From what I recall, both beers were available at the Extreme Beer Fest in February and were in the 10-11% ABV range.

In other Troegs news, Yashinsky confirmed a September 1 release date for Java Head Stout. Also, according to the newly re-designed website: “In honor of the Great American Beer Fest, New York Beer Week, Cleveland Beer Week and Baltimore Beer Week we have brewed a small batch of Nugget Nectar.

The vast majority of this beer is going into firkin and casks, with a limited amount of 22 ounce bottles available at Troegs Brewery.”
