Beer notes: Shelton Brothers Update

The Shelton Brothers are bringing over a lot of new imports. Here are some of the latest label approvals and new arrivals into the States:

Amager Fru Frederiksen

(Pictured above). This is a bit of a grey area in terms of style given it is between the ABV strength of a regular stout and an imperial stout at 7%. It is heavily hopped with Centennial, giving it an IBU rating of 75.

Mikkeller Chinook Single Hop

This is #9 in the Mikkeller Single Hop Series.

Shelton has already sent over some new beers from Nogne O and Beer Here as well.

According to Paul Hayden at The Wine and Cheese Place, posted two weeks ago: “Danish brewing legend Christian Skovdal Andersen was the co-founder and artistic force behind Ølfabrikken. Olfabrikken “The Beer Factory” was named as a joke since it is the complete opposite–it actually had extremely tiny production at that time and was built in the corner of a barn. Olfabrikken has only been around since 2004, but it produces the current #1 porter (in stock now) in the world on RateBeer. Christian and his partner struggled with finances and sold 50% of the company in 2007 and Christian’s partner left. In January of 2008 Christian sold his 50% of Olfabrikken and started a new brewery called Beer Here and the beer world is taken notice of his exciting beers. Beer Here is already climbing up the charts and this is first time available in the U.S.”

While Beer Here Morke Pumpernickel Porter and Dark Hops Hoppy Black Ale may have sold out in some stores, there should still be some available out there.

As for Nogne O, Tyttebaer, the collaboration with Mikkeller, is finally released after well over a year of production and Tiger Tripel also just came out. Courtesy of the Tiger Tripel label:

“It is very difficult to brew a complex and balanced Belgian-style tripel ale, but we have made an attempt at brewing one anyway! Our respect and admiration for those who master the skill and art of brewing excellent ale of this style is limitless. Tripels often pair will with cheese, seafood and fresh vegetables.” – Kjetil Jikiun, Co-founder/Brewmaster
