Flying Fish to release Exit 1 Oyster Stout

(Cherry Hill, NJ) – Flying Fish Exit 1 Bayshore Oyster Stout, the third beer in the Exit Series, got label approval this past week.  The export-style stout will debut early this November in New Jersey, Deleware, Eastern Pennsylvania, and possibly Maryland. Founder and General Manager, Gene Muller, says that about 1,000 cases of 750 mL bottles will be produced with a very limited number of kegs. The oysters come from Bivalve Packing in Port Norris, NJ.


The brewery gave a little background on the beer last month: “By the numbers, this beer will be Exit 1 (Carneys Point, land settlers bought from the Lenni Lenape tribe for 80 gallons of rum and some cutlery). By the map, we’re talking deep, deep in South Jersey, where you’ll find not just oysters but Bivalve also, a locality within Commercial Township (the township in which Port Norris is also located) and Shell Pile, which is what you get after shucking a Meerwald load of oysters.

New Jersey’s oyster industry in Cumberland County crashed in the late 1950s, virtually wiped out by disease. But it has since been revived. Like Springsteen sang: … Maybe everything that dies someday comes back.”

A description of the beer from the label: “The creamy flavor of English chocolate and roasted malts harmonizes with a perceived dryness from the oysters. Irish ale yeast adds a bit of fruitiness and crispness. This rich stout is perfect for cool weather – and especially delicious when paired with a few Jersey oysters on the half shell.”
