[4/8 Update: This beer is en route to USA if it hasn’t arrived already. Watch for bottles to start showing up later this month.]
(Grimstad, NORWAY) – Nøgne Ø is set to ship over another three beers to the U.S. in 2010. My last piece discussed Nøgne Ø Imperial DunkelWit, Highland Edition Imperial Stout, Islay Edition Winter Ale, and the collaboration with Jolly Pumpkin and Stone Brewing: Special Holiday Ale. While SHA is already out in stores, the other three should arrive Stateside in early 2010.
What is in store for later in the year? Dark Horizon 3 should be out as expected though the brewery is bringing another two editions to the mix this year: Sweet Horizon and Red Horizon. In the first of three installments (one for each brew), here is what Co-Founder/Brewer Kjetil Jikiun, has to say about Sweet Horizon:
“Sweet Horizon gets it sweetness from various sugars and syrups. It is hard to compare it to any beers, but I think if you use DH1 as reference, and imagine that with more coffee and dark sugars, it is almost like a liqueur.” 14% ABV and 100 IBUs.
One important distinction, for all three editions, is that the brewery is moving Dark Horizon to 8.5 oz. nip-like bottles this year. Like it or not, the new format gives way to the concept of moderation. This will also result in more bottles and more availability in the U.S. market.
