Shiner Fröst debuts in December

(Shiner, TX) – Received an inbox tip from a store this afternoon and was able to get some info on a new beer to come from Spoetzl Brewery this winter. Shiner Frost, a Dortmunder-style beer, is slated to debut in late December and should be available through March, according to a source close to the brewery. Frost (or Fröst if you will) is expected to appear as Holiday Cheer moves off of shelves.

The brewery has sent out some promotional material to stores already: “Frost is the first offering in Shiner’s 2010 seasonal portfolio and our first Dortmunder-style brew. It has an appealing profile with a pale golden color and notes of honey and subtle floral hops. And like our Texas winter, it’s crisp and refreshing – like a frosty morning.”

As for that other beer that Spoetzl teased at the end of its Shiner 100 Bottle Salute video, stay tuned for details on that later on . . . Fröst will come out first.

  2. Shiner Frost is out today! I work for a distributor in Houston and we are shipping out our first run of 6pks and 12pks today and tomorrow (12/30 and 12/31).

  3. A Dortmunder Export is a lager while Shiner calls this brew an ale.

The beer tastes good, but the marketing makes no sense.

  4. I think it has to do with Texas bottle laws. Something about if it’s a beer than it must say “Ale” on the label. Weird, I know but that’s Texas beer law for ya.
