(Bloomington, IN) – Black IPAs are looking like one of the early trends for 2010. Deschutes Brewery has one coming out next year as part of the Bond Street Series, possibly by the name of Long Shadow Black IPA (unconfirmed, this may just be an unrelated tap-only beer). Widmer Brothers W’10 Pitch Black IPA is coming in January. Upland Brewing just announced another for January (more on that below). At least one other brewery appears to have one coming next year as well.
This comes from the latest Upland Brewing newsletter: “Our newest addition to the Upland seasonal lineup is the Komodo Dragonfly Black IPA. As you can tell, we have as much fun naming our beers as we do making–and drinking–them.
Komodo is a well-balanced, dark, bitter, and totally unique beer experience. We brewed this IPA with a base of fresh Pilsner Malts and darkened the color with pure Black Malts, creating a clean malt character that allows the liberal hop additions to shine through. Komodo Dragonfly is dry-hopped and aged with a pinch of lavender to add to the overall aromatic experience.
Look for it on draught and in six-packs this January.”
