[12/28 Update: Released early according to commenter. You can already pick up a sixer in some places]
(Portland, OR) – Widmer Brothers Brewing has announced its next Brewmasters’ Release Series beer, scheduled to arrive on January 4th. Widmer W’10 Pitch Black IPA tips the scales at 6.5% ABV, consistent with past levels in the series. Unfortunately for those living east, a brewery representative said that the beer will only be available in Western United States.
The label reads, “A pinch of black malt and splash of roasted barley break this IPA apart from tradition. Cascadian Dark: Join the shady revolution.” Pretty obvious that Cascade appears to be one of the main hops used here.
The Brewmasters’ Release Series are a unique set of beers in which a new style is brewed for release each January. While recent releases in the series have yet to earn an A on Beer Advocate, the brewery may hit that mark this year. The beer won a gold medal at this year’s GABF in the “Out of Category – Traditionally Brewed Beer” category beating out 81 other entries.
Picked up a six’er at the store today. Very tasty, very black, but not too heavy. Sweet, and much like the W’09 but for the color.
